DJI TERRA LICENSE GUIDE

DJI Terra Pro: understand your legacy license before you buy or update

If you are searching for DJI Terra Pro, you may be looking at an older quotation, a permanent license you already own, or a tutorial written before the current editions were introduced. The name still appears online, but it needs context.

The key distinction: DJI’s V5.0.0 release notes describe a free transition from the original Pro edition outside mainland China to Standard, and from Electricity to Flagship. Updating the software, extending a license and buying extra capabilities are different decisions.

This guide helps existing users and new buyers interpret legacy names, assess a DJI Terra Pro perpetual license and compare the right purchase options. Start with the license you actually own and the deliverables your clients require.

Prepared by the Drone Emotions team. Official documentation checked on 7 October 2026. Edition availability and individual license eligibility should be confirmed against the current DJI documentation and your license record.

What is DJI Terra Pro?

Pro is a legacy DJI Terra edition name. It appears in historical product descriptions, activation records and training material. For a new purchase, use the current edition name and the exact product specification rather than treating “Pro” as a generic description of professional software.

DJI’s current product material uses names including Agriculture, Standard and Flagship. Cluster computation is a separate licensing consideration. You can explore the wider range in our DJI Terra license guide.

An older page is not necessarily wrong about the software available when it was written. The problem comes when an old edition name, device allowance or maintenance rule is carried into a new purchase without checking the release and license involved.

For example, a company searching for “DJI Terra Pro permanent” may already own a license suitable for its mapping work. A different company using the same search term may need a new Standard license. Those situations deserve different advice.

How legacy Pro relates to Standard and Flagship

DJI introduced Standard and Flagship with V5.0.0. The transition described in the release notes is an edition transition, not a promise that every license receives every tool or a new period of validity.

Legacy editions: the transition documented for DJI Terra V5.0.0
Legacy edition Documented transition Practical check
Pro outside mainland China Free upgrade to Standard. Verify the recognized edition and your license validity after updating.
Survey in mainland China Free upgrade to Standard. Check the regional license record rather than relying on an overseas product listing.
Electricity Free upgrade to Flagship. Confirm that the expected inspection workflow is available in your installed release.

DJI describes this transition as automatic when installing V5.0.0. For the original wording and subsequent changes, consult the official DJI Terra release notes, reached through the DJI downloads page.

Before migrating a production workstation, retain your license information and project backups. Test a representative dataset, inspect its outputs and record the software version used. This gives your team a reproducible workflow if an older project must be reviewed later.

DJI Terra Pro perpetual: validity and updates are different

A perpetual or permanent license concerns the duration of its licensed use. It does not, by itself, describe its edition, authorization mode, number of bound computers or entitlement to a different product.

Historical DJI documentation discusses a first year of free updates and later maintenance charges. DJI’s current FAQ states that V5.0.0 and later do not require upgrade or maintenance fees. Read older maintenance information together with that version-specific update.

Do not treat a software update as a renewal of an expired annual license. Equally, moving from a legacy edition to its documented successor should not be confused with purchasing an additional workstation or a higher feature tier.

For a budget decision, first establish what you already own. Then compare the cost of the remaining requirement: a new license, an eligible edition upgrade or a renewal. Our DJI Terra pricing and annual vs permanent guide explains the purchase comparison.

DJI Terra Agriculture vs Pro: compare the workflow

This search combines a current agricultural edition name with a legacy general mapping edition name. For a new purchase, the more useful comparison is Agriculture against the current Standard or Flagship edition.

Write down the outputs you need before comparing names: field mapping, multispectral analysis, urban orthomosaics, textured 3D meshes, terrain products or an electricity inspection workflow. “Drone mapping” is too broad to determine the right license.

Use the feature matrix on the official DJI Terra product page. Check the marks in the current table and its footnotes; a task appearing somewhere in DJI Terra’s marketing does not establish that it is included in every edition.

  • Agricultural business: specify the crop or orchard workflow, sensor and required outputs.
  • Surveying or construction business: list the map, model and terrain deliverables promised to clients.
  • Inspection or visualization business: identify any specialist capability that changes the edition required.

Bring that list to the purchase discussion. Our Standard vs Flagship comparison helps narrow the current options, while the supported drones and sensors guide addresses the acquisition equipment.

Seven checks for an existing DJI Terra Pro license

  1. Locate the original purchase record. Record the edition, duration, online or offline authorization and any device allowance shown.
  2. Identify the DJI account used. Separate the account associated with activation from other accounts used by your organization.
  3. Record the installed version. A legacy workstation and an updated workstation may show different terminology.
  4. Check the license information in Terra. Note the recognized edition, validity and device status. Do not publish activation codes or account credentials.
  5. Confirm the required workflow. Choose an actual client dataset and the exact export needed.
  6. Review migration requirements. Check binding rules before replacing a PC or changing hardware.
  7. Resolve any mismatch before buying. Send the relevant license details and error message to your supplier or DJI support.

Device permissions should be checked against the specific license. Do not assume an older multi-device purchase and a current one-device product have identical terms. For offline licenses, DJI warns that replacing bound hardware can invalidate the binding.

For the activation workflow, use our installation and activation guide alongside official DJI Terra support.

What should a new buyer choose instead of searching for Pro?

Build your purchase specification around four items: edition, duration, authorization mode and workstation requirement. This makes quotations comparable and reduces ambiguity during activation.

A useful request is: “We need to process these datasets on this workstation, export these deliverables and use the software for this period.” Add whether the processing computer can connect to the internet. DJI distinguishes online authorization, which requires connectivity for paid functions, from offline authorization after binding.

Check the workstation before ordering. Use our system requirements and workstation guide to assess the machine against your project size.

Finally, assess the whole production workflow. Reconstruction, quality checks and model editing may be separate steps. The features overview and Terra vs DJI Modify guide help define those requirements before you select a product or bundle.

What if your Pro license is recognized but a feature is unavailable?

Keep the investigation specific. A missing function can involve the edition, installed release, license validity, authorization, dataset or processing prerequisites. Buying another license before identifying the cause can leave the original problem unresolved.

Capture the exact error message and note when it occurs: signing in, activating, importing data, starting reconstruction or exporting. Include the software version, recognized edition and dataset type when contacting support.

If processing completes but the result is unsuitable, investigate acquisition and reconstruction quality as well. Licensing does not replace a sound survey workflow. Our quality report guide and accuracy, GCP and RTK guide explain how to evaluate the output.

DJI Terra Pro FAQ

Is DJI Terra Pro the same as DJI Terra Standard?

Pro is the legacy name involved in DJI’s documented transition to Standard outside mainland China. Use the recognized edition in your updated software and its license details to establish your current entitlement.

Does a Pro license become Flagship automatically?

The documented Pro transition leads to Standard. Electricity is the legacy edition associated with the transition to Flagship. If you need a Flagship-specific workflow, check the applicable upgrade or purchase option.

Can I buy a DJI Terra Pro perpetual license today?

For a new purchase, request a current product specification. A listing using “Pro perpetual” should be clarified with the seller: ask which edition will be supplied, its duration, authorization mode and device terms.

Should I purchase a maintenance package for an old Pro permanent license?

Check the current DJI update policy and your specific license before purchasing a legacy maintenance item. The old maintenance model should not be applied to a current release without checking DJI’s version-specific guidance.

Does updating Terra make an annual license permanent?

Do not assume that changing the software version changes the purchased duration. Verify validity in your license record and obtain confirmation if the displayed information does not match your purchase.

Can I test DJI Terra before buying a replacement license?

Check the current trial’s eligibility and limits first. Our guide to DJI Terra’s free features and trial explains the distinction between evaluation access and a paid license.

What information should I send when asking about an existing Pro license?

Provide the purchase reference, edition and duration, installed version, authorization mode, intended workstation change and any error message. Share sensitive license information privately with the supplier or DJI support.
