COMPATIBILITY & WORKFLOW GUIDE · DRONE EMOTIONS
DJI Terra does not run natively on macOS. DJI specifies Windows and a compatible NVIDIA graphics configuration for reconstruction. If you use a Mac, plan where the processing will take place before choosing a software license.
This guide explains Mac compatibility, virtual machines, Boot Camp and the option of accessing a separate Windows workstation. It also helps you decide whether you need Terra’s workflow or a native macOS photogrammetry application.
Prepared by the Drone Emotions team. Manufacturer documentation checked on 7 October 2026. Remote access and mixed-platform workflow suggestions below are practical planning guidance, not a DJI certification of a particular configuration.
Is there a DJI Terra download for Mac?
DJI’s official download page lists Windows installers. Its Terra support documentation explicitly excludes macOS from supported operating systems.
Searching for “DJI Terra for Mac” or “DJI Terra download Mac” therefore leads to a compatibility question rather than an alternative official installer. A download advertised as a Mac version should be checked against DJI’s current resources.
You can still use a Mac for other stages of a project: organizing survey files, preparing documentation and reviewing deliverables in suitable receiving applications. Decide separately where reconstruction will run and which application will open the final outputs.
| Approach | Where Terra would run | Planning conclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Native macOS installation | On the Mac in macOS | Not supported by DJI. |
| Windows virtual machine | Inside a virtualized environment | Installing Windows does not establish GPU compatibility. |
| Boot Camp | Windows on an eligible Intel Mac | Hardware and driver requirements still need verification. |
| Separate Windows workstation | On the Windows computer | Validate Terra locally, then test any remote access arrangement. |

Can a MacBook or Apple Silicon Mac run DJI Terra?
A more powerful Mac does not change Terra’s supported operating systems. The question is not simply how much memory your MacBook Pro, Mac Studio or iMac has. It is whether the intended processing environment satisfies the application’s software and graphics requirements.
DJI explains that Terra uses the NVIDIA CUDA computing platform in its computer specifications and GPU FAQ. This explains why generic graphics performance is not a substitute for the named NVIDIA requirement.
For purchasing purposes, do not treat an Apple GPU or a virtual graphics adapter as equivalent to a supported NVIDIA device. That is a compatibility conclusion drawn from the published requirements, not a benchmark comparison between Mac and Windows computers.
Does DJI Terra work with Parallels on a Mac?
Parallels can provide a Windows environment for many applications, but that alone does not demonstrate Terra reconstruction compatibility. The guest operating system and the graphics hardware available to the application are separate requirements.
Parallels’ graphics documentation describes a virtual display adapter rather than direct access to the Mac’s physical graphics card. Its Apple M-series graphics explanation also states that the virtual machine does not directly access the GPU or its memory.
Our planning recommendation: do not buy Parallels or a Terra license on the assumption that a Windows installation resolves the NVIDIA requirement. Obtain confirmation for the exact configuration and intended processing task first.
An installer opening successfully is not a complete compatibility test. Importing data, running reconstruction, reviewing the result and exporting the required files are all part of evaluating an environment.
Can an Intel Mac run DJI Terra through Boot Camp?
Apple documents Boot Camp installation of Windows 10 on eligible Intel Macs. This is a different arrangement from running Windows inside a virtual machine. Apple’s documented Boot Camp route applies to Intel models, not Apple Silicon Macs.
However, installing Windows does not establish that the Mac has the GPU, drivers, memory and storage needed for your Terra task. Verify the exact graphics device and driver support rather than relying on the Mac’s product name.
There is also an operating system lifecycle question. Microsoft’s Windows 10 Home and Pro lifecycle page gives an end-of-support date of 14 October 2025. For a new production setup, have your IT team assess the supported Windows edition, servicing arrangements and hardware together.
We would assess an existing Intel Mac individually rather than present Boot Camp as a general solution for Terra users. A dedicated processing workstation offers a clearer hardware specification to evaluate.
Using a Mac with a separate Windows processing workstation
A practical arrangement to investigate is keeping your Mac for daily work while running Terra on a separate Windows computer. The workstation performs the reconstruction; the Mac may serve as a remote interface or receive exported results.
Microsoft documents connections from macOS to remote PCs through Windows App. This confirms a remote access mechanism, not that every Terra version and GPU configuration works correctly in every remote session.
Validate the processing environment first
- Test Terra locally on the Windows workstation. Confirm the intended processing task and export before adding remote access.
- Have IT configure the connection. Use your organization’s approved network and remote access arrangement.
- Repeat the workflow remotely. Check GPU detection, reconstruction, model navigation and export in the actual session.
- Record the configuration. Keep the Terra version, GPU driver, Windows release and remote access method with your test notes.
If the remote session changes graphics behavior or the application cannot access the required GPU, investigate that configuration with IT and DJI support. Do not assume a working desktop connection proves the reconstruction environment is ready.
Keep working data close to the processing computer
We recommend staging a complete dataset on suitable workstation storage, or storage validated for the workflow, before processing. Repeatedly transferring large survey folders through a remote connection can make the overall process slower and harder to troubleshoot.
Keep original acquisitions backed up, use consistent project names and agree where results will be saved. Transfer the deliverables needed for review rather than every temporary processing file. Test one complete project before adopting the arrangement for a team.
Check licensing on the processing workstation
DJI’s support guidance requires license activation and device binding for online licenses, and stable internet access for their paid functions. The computer running Terra is the processing device to consider. A Mac used as a remote interface does not create additional processing entitlements.
For deployment questions, read the DJI Terra License Guide and Installation & Activation Guide. Confirm the exact product, device count and authorization conditions before ordering.
What Windows workstation does DJI Terra require?
DJI’s published Terra V5.0.0 baseline identifies Windows 10 or later, 64-bit, 32 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GPU with at least 4 GB GPU memory and compute capability 6.1 or above.
This is baseline guidance, not a specification for every reconstruction method or survey size. Check the current release and the requirements of the features you intend to use. More demanding projects may need substantially more memory, GPU resources and working storage.
Use our System Requirements & Workstations Guide for detailed planning. Describe the sensor, image count, resolution, LiDAR data size and outputs when requesting advice. Avoid selecting a computer solely because its RAM matches a minimum.
Download the intended version from the DJI Terra Download page. For evaluation access, see Is DJI Terra Free? Trial, LiDAR Processing & Paid Licenses Explained. Prepare the processing computer before activating a device-bound evaluation.
What if photogrammetry must run natively on macOS?
If a separate Windows processing computer is not an option, evaluate software that explicitly supports macOS. Agisoft publishes macOS installers for Metashape on its official installer page.
Platform compatibility is only one selection criterion. Compare your source data, required coordinate handling, outputs and receiving applications. Do not assume that a native macOS photogrammetry application replaces every sensor-specific DJI recording workflow.
Read our DJI Terra vs Agisoft Metashape comparison alongside the DJI Terra Features page. Evaluate a representative dataset in the appropriate application before committing to a different workflow.
A purchasing checklist for Mac-based teams
- Processing location: identify the computer that will run reconstruction.
- Required tasks: separate image reconstruction, LiDAR processing and downstream editing.
- Hardware: verify the exact GPU, drivers, memory and available working storage.
- Remote use: test the actual session and export workflow if remote access is planned.
- Data handover: check formats, coordinates and units in the receiving Mac application.
- License: confirm the named edition, term, devices and included applications.

DJI Terra for Mac: frequently asked questions
Is DJI Terra available for macOS?
No. DJI’s current documentation specifies Windows and excludes macOS.
Does buying more Mac memory solve compatibility?
No. Memory capacity alone does not satisfy the operating system and graphics requirements.
Is Parallels a confirmed Terra processing solution?
Do not treat it as confirmed. Verify the application’s access to the required GPU and obtain configuration-specific guidance before purchasing.
Can I use a Mac to access a Windows workstation?
Microsoft documents remote PC access from macOS. Terra still runs on the Windows computer, and its processing behavior must be tested in the chosen session.
Can I review Terra outputs on a Mac?
Use a macOS application that supports the exported format. Check file size, coordinates, units and the intended visualization or analysis functions with a sample deliverable.
Should I buy a Terra license before arranging the workstation?
Confirm your processing environment and required entitlement first. This helps avoid purchasing around an unverified compatibility assumption.
